12' Emmy Awards Key Art

AMC’s Mad Men and FX’s American Horror Story came out the leader in the Primetime Emmy Award nominations, each scoring 17.

HBO leads the overall nominations with a massive 81, the most of any network this year. The message is clear – the academy prefers cable to network television. While ABC’s Modern Family and NBC’s 30 Rock continued to score nominations in comedy, the major networks were kept out of the drama category.

The nominations were announced today by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences from the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre. Television Academy Chairman and CEO Bruce Rosenblum presided over the nominations along with Scandal star Kerry Washington and Jimmy Kimmel, host of ABC’s last night show Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Kimmel will host the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards, broadcast live on Sunday, September 23, 2012 on ABC.
