The network has ordered two comedies and a drama as potential pickups.

David H. Steinberg (American Pie 2) wrote the pilot and will executive produce the comedy, Phys Ed, which follows a former high school’s star jock who returns to teach at his alma mater. He realizes that even though he has changed, his high school is just as he left.

Meanwhile, Bill Daly (Mike & Molly) wrote the pilot for Continuing Fred, another school related comedy. It centers on Winfred “Fred” Harris, a twenty-something, college graduate with a bit of a slacker streak much to the frustration of her overbearing family. It’s only after she begins a teaching career at a local elementary school that Fred begins to find purpose.

Terminales is a one-hour drama, based off the Mexican drama by Miguel Angel Fox. Aaron Kaplan (GCB, Terra Nova) will executive produce alongside Susanna Fogel and Joni Lefkowtiz. The show delves into a young woman’s life after being diagnosed with a terminal illness. Leftkowitz also wrote the pilot.

These pilot orders join Jennifer Lopez’s The Fosters and Gavin Polone’s Socio as possible shows for the network. Kate Juergens, executive vice president of ABC family, said, “ABC Family is synonymous with groundbreaking dramas, and this summer we found additional strength with our comedy lineup. These pilots will further our strength in both areas and add to our existing slate.”

If picked up, these shows will join ABC Family’s other successful dramas and comedies, Pretty Little Liars, Switched at Birth, Melissa and Joey, and Baby Daddy.
