The Office Season Premiere Recap "New Guys"

0

It is the beginning of the end for our favorite paper company, as NBC’s hit comedy series The Office kicked off its final season with New Guys.

The episode kicks off with everyone recounting what happened over the summer. Andy spent the summer babysitting the bosses son on a wilderness adventure– where Aaron recounts that according to their counselor they are both “grew up big time” which she was delighted to hear. Kevin smashed a turtle…twice; while Dwight found out he wasn’t Angelia’s child’s father. Not much happened with Jim and Pam – we just found out that Jim’s friend is running with an idea that the two of them had together and is making it into an online start up *cough* FORESHADOWING ALERT! *cough*  Kelly moved to Ohio to be with her boyfriend and of course Ryan followed after her claiming he is going to the new silicon valley or rather the silicon prairie. After that we cut back to Jim and Pam who after having their confessional are talking with the camera operators, Pam ask if they don’t have everything by now since they are “just a paper company” to which the camera op replies they are documenting their journeys now, Pam nods along saying they were rather dramatic in the beginning, but now raising two kids nothing is going to change for a long long time, to which we see Jim become rather nervous as if he is holding something back *FORESHADOWING PEOPLE!!!!*

As the episode progresses we see Andy return and set out for revenge on Nellie (Catherine Tate), Angelia puts her cat Comstock up for adoption and after much pestering Oscar eventually takes it in so that Robert (Angelia’s husband) can enjoy the cat’s company while the two of them are together. New guys Clarke and Pete are teased for being the new Dwight and Jim of the office- to which Dwight seeks to prove that he is still the best there is which leads to a death defying stunt in which Dwight rides a bike across a power line, and almost kills himself.

Meanwhile Jim comes to the realization that his life is boring and the path that he is on is set in stone, now that he has a real opportunity to change everything and make his dreams come true he decides, without talking to Pam, to take his friend up on the partnership, which means moving his family to Philadelphia.

Overall this was a decent season premiere for the final season of the show. We got some storylines actually progressing, a few twist and turns and I overall was enjoying the momentum that the show had during this episode. With that said however I really didn’t find myself laughing as much as I had previously, and I found the episode to be maybe relying on to many past shticks that was holding it back from being a GREAT episode of The Office.

Please feel free to drop a note in the comments letting me know why you thought this WAS a great episode of The Office or what you didn’t like about it, I’m sure there’s plenty of discussion to be had with both opinions.
