ABC Cancels 'Last Resort,' '666 Park Avenue'

ABC has passed on ordering the back nine episodes for Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue, effectively ending the series’ at the conclusion of episode 13.

The series were picked up for an initial 13-episode order in May during the network upfronts. Any additional episodes, if ordered, depended on the performance of the series. ABC recently ordered full seasons for freshman series’ Nashville and The Neighbors; also ordering a full season for Shonda Rhimes’ Scandal, now in its second season. The cancellation comes just weeks after ABC ordered additional scripts.

Last Resort’s ratings never matched expectations or the critical acclaim heaped upon the series. Though its performance increased when factoring in DVRs and Live +7, it simply wasn’t enough. To date, the series is averaging 7.3 million total viewers and a 1.7 in the demo.

Supernatural soap opera 666 Park Avenue wasn’t a success either. The series is averaging 5 million viewers and a 1.6 rating in the key demo.

ABC has the option of possibly bringing back the shows for a second season, but it’s doubtful that will happen. It is unknown at this time what will replace them on the lineup. The network has mid-season dramas Mistresses (set for a summer 2013 premiere), Red Widow and Zero Hour to fall back on, as well as comedies Family Tools and How to Live With Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life) as replacement options.
