Less than a week after the CW canceled veteran drama 90210, star Matt Lanter landed the lead role opposite Friday Night Lights alum Aimee Teegarden in the pilot for The CW’s sci-fi drama Oxygen.

Lanter will play Roman, a member of the Orion 9 and the boy who falls in love with Emery (Teegarden).

The series revolves around an epic romance that ignites between a human girl, Emery, and an alien boy, Roman, when he and eight others of his kind (The Orion 9) are integrated into a suburban high school 10 years after they and hundreds of others landed on Earth and were immediately consigned to an internment camp, where they’ve been imprisoned ever since.

For five years, Matt Lanter starred as bad boy Liam Court in The CW’s Beverly Hills 90210 reboot. His other television credits Grey’s Anatomy, Heroes, Monk and Commander in Chief. He also starred in feature films Disaster Movie, Sorority Row, Vampires Suck and The Roommate. In addition to television and film, the actor has a notable voice-over career, including voicing the role of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ultimate Spider-Man and Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.

He joins the already cast Grey Damon (Secret Circle), Titus Makin Jr. (Glee), and Malese Jow (The Vampire Diaries).

The Good Wife’s Meredith Averill will pen the CBS Television Studios pilot and executive produce the drama with Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol), Scott Rosenberg (Life on Mars), Richard Shepard (Ringer, Girls), Bryan Furst & Sean Furst (Daybreakers) and Daniel Gutman. Gary Fleder is attached to direct the pilot.
