Move over, Oliver. A new superhero is heading for Starling City and perhaps beyond.

Arrow producers have cast Grant Gustin to play Dr. Barry Allen, the alter ego of DC Comics’ speedster better known as the Flash. As previously reported, the character will arrive in episode eight and will stick around for episode 9 before returning again in episode 20.

That episode will be a backdoor pilot for a potential spinoff series based on the character. When Arrow viewers first meet Dr. Allen, he is an ordinary man, a forensics scientist working in Central City’s police department.

All three episodes featuring Barry will be written by Geoff Johns, Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti, who will executive produce the spinoff, if it is ordered to series.

Gustin is best known for his role as Sebastian on Glee, the Warbler who went out of his way to make life miserable for New Directions. His other TV roles include guest spots on 90210 and CSI: Miami.

Arrow kicks off its second season Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 8/7c on The CW.
