‘Revenge’ Season 3 Premiere: 7 Reasons to Look Forward to Another Summer in the Hamptons

Summer might be coming to an end here in the real world, but it’s just getting started on Revenge. Put on your finest party clothes and grab a glass of champagne – it’s time to get ready for a return to the Hamptons.

When we last saw Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp), she was confessing her true identity to her childhood love Jack (Nick Wechsler) to stop him from going through with his plan to kill Conrad (Henry Czerny).

As the season premiere begins and Emily’s familiar voiceover talks about “Fear,” we find Emily in a wedding dress on a yacht. If you’ve seen the preview, then you know what comes next. Despite her apologies, someone shoots Emily and she falls off the boat and into the dark ocean below.

Like the two season premieres before it, the third opener instantly takes us back to the beginning of the summer to let the story unfold so viewers can see what leads Emily to that fateful moment and presumably give some clues as to who is on the other end of that gun.

What else can we tell you about the episode? Not much because we don’t like to give away surprises, but we can say that the season premiere makes good on the promises to take the show back to its first season roots.

There was plenty of soapy goodness to be had and our favorite red sharpie made a triumphant return. Even better – Emily and Nolan agreed that the words ‘carrion’ and ‘initiative’ should never be mentioned again.

Here are seven other tidbits to keep you going for the next 20 days until the premiere:

#1 Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) spent the six months since the events of the finale bonding with her son Patrick (Justin Hartley). The two are all smiles and Victoria is happier than we’ve ever seen her. But more than one person might be lining up to burst Queen Victoria’s bubble sooner rather than later.

#2 ‘Nemily’ fans will be extremely pleased with all of the quality scenes between Emily and Nolan (Gabriel Mann). There’s a great nod to the pilot and Emily makes good on a promise that she made to Nolan last season. Bonus spoiler: Nolan picks up on why Emily chooses a specific date for her wedding.

#3 Patrick is not the only new face in the Hamptons. We meet Margaux (Karine Vanasse) when she takes Daniel (Josh Bowman) by surprise. The two have known each other a long time and her reasons for trading Paris for New York are something Daniel can find easily relatable.

#4 Charlotte (Christa B. Allen) has most definitely changed since the last time we saw her. More than one character comments on her new look, but it’s her personality that will have people talking. The youngest of Victoria’s children squares off with two characters in key scenes.

#5 Ashley (Ashley Madekwe) is still lingering in the Hamptons and she has one more ace up her sleeve to try and get her way. But Ashley’s schemes have never ended well for her and the person she decides to blackmail turns to an unexpected ally.

#6 Due to the time jump, we don’t get to see what happens right after Emily reveals her identity to Jack, but the scenes we get in the present more than make up for it. We audibly gasped more than once during their shared screen time.

#7 Aiden’s (Barry Sloane) fate is revealed.

If that’s not enough, we’ll leave you with two shallow goodies: 1) Emily’s hair is a shade darker and looks incredible and 2) not one, not two, but three of the Hamptons’ men are shirtless in the premiere. One of them spends an entire scene in a towel.

Revenge returns Sunday, Sept. 29 at 9/8c on ABC.
