‘Reign’ Preview: Will Mary end her engagement to Francis?

Things between Mary and Francis took a turn for the better in the last episode of Reign. The young prince stood up for her and promised to keep her safe at French Court. But what happens when the king compromises their fragile alliance?

“Kissed” brings a new player into the mix in the form of a Portuguese prince. England’s armies are threatening Scotland’s borders and Mary asks King Henry to intervene. Unfortunately, the king is not interested in getting involved and refuses to help, despite the fact that the arranged marriage between Mary and Francis was supposed to provide security for Scotland.

That’s when Prince Tomas (Manolo Cardona) gallantly steps in with an offer of his own: Portugal will lend their assistance to Scotland, if Mary breaks her engagement to Francis and agrees to marry him instead. Oh what a tangled web these royals weave; will Mary agree to what’s in the best interest of her country?

Francis is not amused by the competition. Perhaps his feelings for Mary are deeper than he’s realized or maybe he just doesn’t like to lose. Either way, he has a plan and it leads to Bash winding up in jeopardy. We definitely do not like the sound of that.
