With the success of The Vampire Diaries, The CW is hoping to strike gold again with another adaptation, this time from the author of Pretty Little Liars! The network plans to adapt Sara Shephard’s yet-to-be-released book series, The Perfectionists, into a drama series.
Given the popularity of Pretty Little Liars, it’s not surprising The CW hopes Shephard’s material can replicate the template of success she’s provided ABC Family. The author announced her new book series in a tweet in September. All that’s known about The Perfectionists is that it follows the same “murder mystery” theme as Pretty Little Liars and the soon-to-be-released Heiresses (which is being adapted into a series on Bravo).
Deadline reports the project will be headed up by Arika Lisanne Mittman (Dexter), who’ll helm the series and executive produce. Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein (The Vampire Diaries) and Cheryl Dolins will also serve as executive producers. Dolins, a former NBC executive, was named Ally Entertainment’s SVP of Television Production & Development in September. She replaced Alloy exec and frequent producer Gina Girolamo, who left for McG’s Wonderland Sound & Vision in the summer.
