General Hospital star Tristan Rogers, who recurs as super spy Robert Scorpio, is set to wrap up his latest run on the ABC serial to return to CBS’ The Young and the Restless as Australian crime boss Colin Atkinson in 2014.

Daytime Confidential’s Jamey Giddens broke news of the soap jump late Wednesday night, which was confirmed by Soap Opera Digest on Thursday. “Y&R is excited to have Tristan Rogers return to the show,” said a show rep. “We have an exciting story planned with him and Jess Walton [Jill] that will begin in early 2014.

Y&R cast Tristan Rogers in the fall of 2010, describing his role as a “mysterious, charming stranger who comes to Genoa City with a dark secret and a threatening agenda.”  Colin soon cozied up to Jill in an attempt to gain information on Cane, who viewers later discovered was his son. A convoluted involving the Australian mob, Cane’s evil twin brother and the murder of his sister soon followed. Colin would go on to marry Jill, but the return of his estranged wife Genevieve (Genie Francis) and trust issues would cause the end of his and Jill’s relationship. Colin was written out and sent to prison when the actor was let go in the fall of 2011, though he reprised the role briefly in 2012.

Though news of the actor’s exit from GH surprised fans, no one seemed more surprised than General Hospital head writer Ron Carlivati. The scribe tweeted, “Guys, I had no idea @tristanrogers was leaving. I found out last night. I now have 1 day to write him out of a big Feb sweeps storyline.” He later wrote, “Meanwhile, you will see a lot of Robert between now and February! And please respect @tristanrogers and his decision. Thanks. #GH”

Rogers had thanks for Carlivati and executive producer Frank Valentini on Twitter. “I’d like to thank Frank and Ron for great storyline that kept Scorpio true to himself.” The actor also shared his excitement to be returning to Y&R as well. “I’m stoked on Colin’s return to #YR in 2014 and delighted to once again be a part of the CBS Daytime family.”

For fans worried they won’t get to see Robert reunite with his daughter Robin (Kimberly McCullough), I can tell you that the reunion is coming sooner than you think.

The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS and weeknights on TVGN.
