The Voice is winding down its competition with only two more weeks, and last night’s episode featuring the remaining Top 6 showed that it could be hard for voters to decide who stays and who should leave when Tuesday evening’s elimination show takes place. With the teams of Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera, the contestants each performed two songs of the night to be voted on. Here’s what took place on Monday evening’s The Voice.

Cole Vosbury, the lone artist from Team Blake, performed Hall and Oates “Rich Girl” to open up the show, then chose the song “Better Man” from James Morrison, who he dedicated to a previous girlfriend. As the only remaining contestant from Blake’s team, Cole is doing his best to hang on. His overall personality when onstage instantly draws you in. His performance of “Rich Girl” was so fun to watch, but “Better Man” was much more suited for him in the competition that night.

Adam continues to give Tessanne Chin songs that show her dedication to her home of Jamaica, and Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song” is what he selected for her to sing. It was such a powerful song for her and she just made it so hauntingly beautiful. Each time she goes on stage, she just commands full attention on her, and she continues to show such growth as a vocalist. The second song was of her choosing, and that was Katy Perry’s “Unconditionally”, which she dedicated to her parents. Is it wrong to say I loved her version just a bit more than Katy’s? As Adam said, Katy Perry songs are somewhat challenging to perform, however, Tessanne took on that challenge and came out on top. It was beautifully sung and I’m sure Katy has seen it with a smile on her face.

Matt Schuler chose One Directions “The Story of My Life” and dedicated to his parents for always believing in him. This is the first time I’ve heard this song, so I can’t compare it from that of the band’s, however, Matt just has so much passion when he sings, that it didn’t matter that it was my first time hearing it. I just love how he is able to take whatever song and spin it into something magical. His second song was Percy Sledge’s “When a Man Loves a Woman”. While I loved his performance, this one, in my opinion was a tad too big for him, but other than that, Matt still has it.

I have always been a fan of songs from Sam Cook, so when Will Champlin chose “A Change is Gonna Come”, I got chills. Will dedicated the song to his wife Rosanne and his little daughter, Harper. It was a dedication that things would eventually turn around for the better for them. I just love watching Will perform, and he made this song so soulful, yet heartfelt. He has the ability to change gears vocally; whether it’s falsetto or stretching out a note; whatever it is, he’s great at it. For his second performance, Adam chose the song “Hey Brother’ by Avicii, which was mind-numbing. The song is an eclectic of different genres. It wasn’t quite country or folksy, but it was the right blend of for Will to take on; and that he did.

Despite being under the weather, James Wolpert still owned it when he performed “Fell in Love with a Girl” from The White Stripes, the song he dedicated to his father for always giving him support in the things that he does. Adam mentioned that he had a slight muff during this song, but I didn’t pick up on it at all, which is very good. James has become one of the strongest contenders in the competition, so, once again, it is going to be hard to vote who stays. The second song selection was that of “I Would Do

Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)” by Meatloaf. Adam wanted James to take it back to the big bravados and stretched out notes. Once again, despite James being sick, he still killed it on stage. I love that he used his theater background to the song.

Pint-sized, sixteen sweetheart, Jacquie Lee from Team Christina blew up the stage and kept on singing when she took on the soulful Janis Joplin tune “Cry Baby”. I don’t know how she connects to a song that is about heartbreak, considering she never really had one, but she just took that song and channeled whatever she could to show raw emotion in her performance. She may be the youngest, but each person that is left in the competition may want to stay one step ahead of her, because she’s owning it. Jacquie’s second song was a dedication to her coach, Christina, with the song “The Voice Within”, which was Christina’s hit from the album “Stripped” ten years ago. Her take on the song was beautifully done and I truly can see Jacquie down the road doing this for a long time.

Tuesday will be a nail-biter because the elimination show will take out one more artist, leaving us with the Top 5. It’s anyone’s game and it’s going to be sad to see two people go because not one performance on last night’s show was bad. Many people are most likely wondering if Adam will continue to dominate the competition since he has all three of his vocalists. Could it be the end of Blake, killing his chances of a four-peat? Or will Christina finally get a chance to take the reins and hold on to her artists seal the deal to be in the finale? The only way to know is by tuning in to Tuesday’s The Voice.
