Days of our Lives star Alison Sweeney is joining ABC’s General Hospital, but it’s not what you think! The actress, author, director and host will be joining the show behind the scenes as a director, reports Soap Opera Digest.
In the newest issue of Soap Opera Digest (available for sale now), General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini explains how Sweeney came to joining his directing team. “Ali and I have been friends for years, but she’s actually very close friends with one of my producers, M.K. Weir. Ali showed interest in observing as a director on General Hospital over a year and a half ago, so she would come in sporadically and observe some of the directors, who are just really, really talented people.”
Valentini says Sweeney sort of “paid her dues” and spent time learning the show. When a position on the team became available due to medical leave, he called up Sweeney and she accepted!
The 20-year soap veteran wrapped up filming at Days of our Lives at the end of May, bringing to close a two-decade run as troublemaker Sami Brady. Due to DAYS’ production schedule, Alison Sweeney is expected to air through the fall.
