The Flash will boost its villainous ranks with the addition of Pied Piper, played by Smash and Chasing Life star Andy Mientus. Pied Pier, DC’s openly gay villain will appear in the 11th and 12th episodes of The Flash‘s inaugural season.

Prior to becoming one of DC’s original Rogues, Pied Piper was known as Hartley Hathaway, a genius and former member of STAR Labs until a falling out with Dr. Harrison Wells (played by Tom Cavanagh), the benefactor behind the particle accelerator. The detonation of the particle accelerator led to Hartley losing his hearing, resulting in him using his genius for evil. Hartley began creating sonic weapons that he uses to destroy Harrison’s new favorite toy: The Flash (Grant Gustin).

Whereas some comic adaptations shy away from exploring already established sexuality (looking at you Constantine) of the characters, TVLine reports The Flash will not ignore Piper’s.

Mientus is currently starring in the Broadway revival of Les Misérables.

The Flash airs Tuesdays on The CW.
