Camila Banus impressed the writers on our team who aren’t regular Days of our Lives watchers. One who keeps up with the show via social media tuned in and was highly pleased with her performance. Even more so when she watched the reels again.

Simply put, we were wowed by Camila Banus’ reel. The way we felt after watching her scenes was how we wanted to feel (and should feel) after watching every Emmy reel. Truthfully, it was a pleasant surprise. Rarely was she given the opportunity to hit a home run out of the park, so when given the chance, she did so effortlessly. The strength of the submission was the ease in which she showed restraint as Gabi slowly broke down, showing both relief and fear as the weight of lies is lifted and the reality of the consequences of her actions begins to take hold. At the end she lets it all sink in. “I want to hold my baby. Please? I want to hold her in my arms and never let go. But I know that’s not in the plea deal you made. I’m going to prison and I’m never going to see my daughter again.”

It’s no secret that Gabi wasn’t a well-liked character, but Banus showed up and showed out at the end of her tenure. Every range of emotion she went through describing the never ending torment from Nick Fallon (Blake Berris) was felt. “He just wouldn’t leave me alone.” She did an amazing job of conveying the emotions of a woman truly at her breaking point. The best part of Banus’ reel for us was that it was her stage. A lot of times actors submit reels where others in the scene either out shine them or distract the audience. There was no distracting from Camila at all!

Banus is the clear winner in this category. The only other submission that comes anywhere close to being as good is GH’s Haley Pullos (who plays Molly Lansing). Y&R’s Hunter King and GH’s Kristen Alderson’s reels felt boring in comparison.

Counter Opinion: Haley Alexis Pullos is one of the best younger actresses in daytime when given the material to play. The storyline of Ric’s “death” and Molly finding out was one of those examples where Haley was able to shine. I remember watching those scenes and feeling heartbroken for Molly. – Walker Ragsdale, Staff Writer
