Lachlan Buchanan, who joined The Young and the Restless earlier this year, has been taken off contract.

The hunky Aussie took over the role of Jack Abbott’s only mentioned son Kyle in January, debuting on-screen February 25. Buchanan has had little to do outside of playing a supportive, if not periphery role in the Cabin Murder Mystery and Newman/Abbott war that’s dominated most of the airtime this year. Even Kyle’s romance with Summer Newman has gone nowhere after numerous starts and stops.

Initially thought have received his walking papers, Daytime Confidential reports Lachlan Buchanan will remain with Y&R in a recurring capacity.

It’s disappointing that the charismatic actor hasn’t had the opportunity to do much. When given the chance he’s delivered consistent, believable performances. Also a plus is the chemistry with on-screen father, co-star Peter Bergman. Maybe recurring won’t be the end of Kyle, but if creative rarely used him when he was on contract, what’s the chances of that changing now?
