Ever since the stellar Star Wars Rebels season two finale aired back in March, I’ve been impatiently counting down the days until season three arrives. Although it may be a while before the premiere, tidbits have slowly been leaking about what this season will bring about for our band of Rebels.

Galactic Style Upgrades

After the harrowing events of the season two finale (Kanan is blind! Ahsoka has vanished!) it’s safe to say our heroes will never be the same, emotionally or otherwise. This also goes for the looks of our Rebels. As revealed in the Rebels Recon video following the finale, Ezra & Co. are set to get new looks as they head into season three and move closer to the Episode IV timeline. Just what these looks entail remains to be seen, but it’s certainly exciting to imagine while we wait!

STAR WARS REBELS - "The Protector of Concord Dawn" - The rebels are in need of new hyperspace routes as the Empire closes in. The rebel crew finds a new shortcut, but they must gain permission from the leader of Concord Dawn to use it. This episode of "Star Wars Rebels" airs Wednesday, January 27 (9:00 PM - 9:30 PM ET/PT) on Disney XD. (Lucasfilm) SABINE

Sabine Takes Center Stage

Speaking to i09 following season two, Executive Producer Dave Filoni reports that Sabine Wren, the Ghost’s resident Mandalorian artist, will see her role expanded in the coming season – moving next to Ezra Bridger importance-wise. “We are [also] going to delve a bit more into things with the Mandalorians and Sabine’s story,” Filoni said. “Sabine’s story will grow greatly in importance in the third season, and she kind of comes up to stand next to Ezra as far as being an important player on the show. And she isn’t as much a supporting character, which I think is a great transition for her as a character.”

Given the fantastic Sabine-focused episode “The Protector of Concord Dawn,” this is certainly promising for where the series is headed.

Lando Calrissian Returns

Actor Billy Dee Williams, best known as Cloud City scoundrel Lando Calrissian, revealed in an interview with Teekay-421 that Lando is set to return in Star Wars Rebels’ third season. Just what his role will be remains to be seen, but with Calrissian around, trouble is sure to follow.

Captain Rex’s Old School Look

In honor of this year’s May the 4th, AKA Star Wars Day, Dave Filoni tweeted a photo of Captain Rex sporting his classic Clone Trooper helmet from The Clone Wars. It’s a nice nod to Rex’s past and a special treat for those who grew up watching him on their screens back in the day.

More Maul

When we last saw Maul, he was racing off Malachor in a TIE Fight to parts heretofore unknown. The cause of Kanan’s blindness and the betrayer of young Ezra, Maul has more than ruffled the feathers of the Ghost Crew – so it’s safe to say his story is far from finished as we head into the new season and return was confirmed by Dave as he spoke to IGN after the season two finale.

A Premiere Date Has Not Been Set

Replying to a fan on Twitter, Lucasfilm Publicist Tracy Cannobbio tweeted that a season three premiere date has not yet been decided. Season two began with a two-part TV movie in June, followed by the actual season premiere in October that same year. Whether or not Disney XD follows the same pattern remains to be seen, but you can be sure we’ll report on it the second we hear something.
