Arrow fan favorite and original cast member Katie Cassidy is returning to The CW series she helped launch, DC-TV announced today. The actress is slated to appear in the final two episodes of Season 5, and will be a series regular in the upcoming Season 6.

Her return is with a twist — she won’t be reprising her role as Laurel Lance aka Black Canary, but as her Earth-2 doppelgänger Black Siren. Black Siren first appeared on The Flash after going up against Barry Allen.

“One of the things that most excites us about Arrow is that we go where the story takes us,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim said in a statement. “Last year, the story took us to the tragic death of Laurel Lance. This year, our midseason finale reintroduced us to Laurel’s doppelgänger, Black Siren. We were so taken by Katie’s fearless interpretation of this character that we knew her story was not yet finished. We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Katie back to Arrow as Black Siren, though as her appearances on Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow this season show, she never really left the family.”

It will be interesting to see how Arrow handles the integration of the character full-time. Last time Siren appeared she masqueraded as Laurel, only to handed over to ARGUS when Oliver (Stephen Amell) learned the truth.

Will Siren’s redemption arc be a major focal point of Season 6?

Arrow airs Wednesdays on The CW.
