Arrow returns to The CW this week after its holiday hiatus. When we last saw Oliver (Stephen Amell), he’d just lost a fight to the Dark Archer (guest star John Barrowman) and he was not handling it very well. Is he ready to put his vigilante alter ego behind him?

[SPOILERS AHEAD]

In “Burned,” a new villain is terrorizing Starling City. Comic book fans will recognize the character as Firefly, a former firefighter who was badly burned and has turned to a life of a crime, using fires against his victims. Laurel (Katie Cassidy) seeks out Arrow to help her investigate a firefighter’s suspicious death, but Oliver’s lack of confidence nearly costs him his life.

Dig (David Ramsey) tries to get through to Oliver and helps him see that his issues are not physical, but Oliver isn’t sure he’s ready to go back. Meanwhile, Tommy (Colin Donnell) does what he can to help the firefighters and throws a charity benefit as Thea (Willa Holland) tries to get Moira (Susanna Thompson) out of her state of depression. The episode was directed by Eagle Egilsson and written by Moira Kirland and Ben Sokolowski.

Arrow returns Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
