The Young and the Restless has found its new Noah Newman! Less than a week after Kevin Schmidt announced he was let go (again) from Y&R, the soap has already found a replacement. Hollywood Heights star Robert Adamson will take over the role beginning in September.

Soap Opera Digest reports the actor begins taping Tuesday, September 4 and will first air October 1. Adamson worked with Y&R’s new head writer Josh Griffith and executive producer Phelps on Nick-at-Nite soap opera Hollywood Heights, where he played Phil Sanders.

Though Y&R marks Adamson’s first foray into the daytime business, the young actor has plenty of credits under his belt. He starred in the ABC Family drama Lincoln Heights for four seasons, recurred on Disney’s Jonas, and guest starred on primetime series Cold Case, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Sonny with a Chance. He also co-stared with singer/actors Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez in the Disney Channel movie The Princess Protection Program.

Noah, the son of Y&R super couple Nick & Sharon, hasn’t been a major factor in storylines over the last couple of years. Viewers still don’t know why his relationship with Eden (Jessica Heap), and his apathy towards his parents’ never ending games of romantic musical chairs has left him without much to do. Could that change with the new regime? Let’s hope so.

My POV: I’m thrilled with this news. Obviously I’m sad to see Schmidt go, but Y&R selected a very talented replacement. As a legacy character, Noah should be more of a focus on the show. On top of that, he should be furious with his mother for hooking up with his grandfather! There were rumors the soap had plans to write a gay storyline for Noah, but that was before Josh and Jill came on. We’ll see what they have in store for the character going forward. Welcome to Y&R!

  3. I think they made a good choice, if the other one had to leave. the new actor favors Joshua Morrow! I am still upset about them letting Eileen Davidson go! I hope they do not get rid of more deep-rooted actors/characters, or they will lose viewers!
