Kelly Hu

Kelly Hu has been tapped for a guest starring role on CW’s Arrow. The news was announced during today’s Arrow panel at Comic Con and Hu confirmed it on her Twitter feed.

Hu has been cast as China White. Comic book fans may already be familiar with the character, who appeared in the Green Arrow: Year One series. In the comics, China is the leader of a drug cartel in the South Pacific who specializes in heroin. Oliver unknowingly invested in her operation and when she felt threatened by him, she had her men toss him off the side of a boat and leave him for dead.

While the character is being borrowed from the comics, the show will change some of the history and Oliver will encounter China during the five years he is stranded on an island and presumed to be dead. It has not been announced which episode Hu will appear in or if the character will be recurring.

No stranger to the CW, Hu has guest starred in several episodes of The Vampire Diaries as Pearl, a witch and long time friend and confidant of Katherine’s. Hu has also done work on Hawaii 5.0, Breakout Kings and lent her voice to the animated series Young Justice.

Arrow premieres Wednesday, October 10 at 8 p.m.
