Hoping to channel the success of occult series Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries, The CW is heading back to the young-adult supernatural well for its newest project. The network is developing a new female driven supernatural drama based off the Jessica Shirvington book Embrace.

The hour long project from CBS Television Studios and Stephen Spielberg’s Amblin Television focuses on Violet Eden, a twenty something who discovers she’s half angel and the key to a centuries-old war between fallen angels and their earthly protectors. She finds herself torn between Lincoln/Gregori, a half-human, half angel who reveals their eternal connection; and Phoenix, an intense, exiled angel who she is drawn to. As Violet gets caught up in an ancient battle between dark and light, she must choose her path. The wrong choice could cost not only her life, but her eternity…

Bill Laurin and Glenn Davis (Once A Thief, 1-800-Missing) will serve as head writer and executive producers.  The pair pitched the series in the vein of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank of Amblin will also produce.  Deadline reports CW president Mark Pedowitz, Frank and Falvey teamed up to secure the rights to the project after previously competing against each other.

Embrace is the latest of many upcoming projects in development for the youth skewing network. Earlier this month The CW purchased prep school drama, Copeland Prep from Gossip Girl’s Fake Empire and Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke. Also in development is Amazon, superhero origin series based off the DC Comic Wonder Woman.
