Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) will meet her future best friend, Samantha Jones, during Season 2 of The Carrie Diaries. Lindsey Gort will play the younger version of Samantha Jones, the character made famous by Kim Cattrall on HBO’s Sex and the City.

Samantha’s appearance should come as no surprise. During The CW’s upfronts in May, the network revealed Season 2 would feature Carrie and Samantha’s first meeting. Carrie placed a phone call to Samantha during the Season 1 finale, thanks to a number she received from Donna LaDonna (Chloe Bridges).

The show’s producers describe her introduction: “Through a surprising connection, our young Carrie Bradshaw will meet one of the most important people in her life this season in a role made iconic by Kim Cattrall: Samantha Jones, a ballsy, beautiful and sexy young woman from the panhandle of Florida who has made her way — and already a name for herself — in the rock ’n’ roll scene of 1980s NYC.”

Gort, a relative newcomer, has an episode of CBS’ ill-fated Vegas under her belt. She can also be seen in Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington’s upcoming feature film, 2 Guns.

The Carrie Diaries returns for its second season on Oct. 25 on The CW.
