All My Children star Rebecca Budig (ex-Greenlee) will join the cast of General Hospital as a new character that’s described as a “killer role”.

Budig’s yet-to-be-revealed character is a “real spitfire” according to Carlivati. The actress is set to begin taping the last week of February reports Soap Opera Digest. Budig tells SOD, “I’ve always loved GH and I love Frank Valentini, so it’s really exciting to go over there and play.”

In the spirit of the return of ABC’s Fan February, General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini and head writer Ron Carlivati teased a blockbuster casting announcement in a series of amusing exchanges.

Budig, a two-time Daytime Emmy nominee, began her career in daytime as Michelle Bauer on the CBS’s Guiding Light in 1995.  After three years in Springfield, she departed the show to pursue other interests. The next year, Budig would land her most popular role as All My Children’s scheming Greenlee Smythe, the long-lost daughter of fan favorite Jackson Montgomery. Budig’s popularity would soar through the stratosphere when she was paired with Josh Duhamel’s Leo DuPres, forming one of AMC’s most popular supercouples of the 2000s.

Proving that lightning can strike more than once, Budig’s formed another supercouple with Cameron Mathison’s Ryan Lavery. Budig left the role in 2005, but would return in 2008 after a decision to recast the character in 2007 proved to be unpopular. Heralded as the “real Greenlee” in network promotional campaigns, Budig returned to much fanfare, only to leave again less than a year later. She agreed to return to AMC in the fall of 2009 when production moved to Los Angles, remaining as a contract cast member until the series finale in September 2011.

“I can’t wait to be a part of #GH and to work with a group of very talented people!,” Budig posted on Twitter. “Here’s what I know. #GH fans are amazing!!  Wish I could reply to all of you but I have a baby to feed! Thank you for a warm welcome!”

We’ll update you with more information as more is made available, like who is she playing? When is her first airdate? What color will her hair be? Yes, that’s important information.

  1. Great another scene chewing female on this show with an extremely bloated cast. Couldn’t they find a nice looking male actor who can act because they are seriously lacking in that department

  2. Very, very Rebecca is returning to daytime. But at the same time, the last thing GH needs is new cast members in its already bloated cast.
