Days of Our Lives Headwriter Dena Higley is writing a story that is very close to her heart. The DAYS scribe is penning a story about autism, a disability her nineteen year old son Conner was diagnosed with when he was three. On DAYS, Lexie (Renee Jones) and Abe Carver (James Reynolds) are learning how to adapt with with son Theo’s (Terrell Ransom JR) diagnosis.
Higley explains in an exclusive interview with EW.com how NBC approached her with the idea of doing the storyline, something she immediately jumped up to the plate to do the storyline. Higley hopes viewers to be able to identify with the Carvers and how they have to accommodate the needs of their child day from day to day. Higley goes on to say how she this storyline to play out in the long term.
Days of our Lives wants to portray this story correctly. To help with story, the show has brought a researcher from UCLA on set to help out. Ransom loves to smile and interact a lot with his fellow actors and crew members, something they don’t want his character to do. However Ransom is taking direction very well and knows what he has to do. Days of Our Lives plans to tell the story through the diagnosis, the reaction and ultimately how Theo can live a normal life.
