Days of Our Lives has announced the immediate replacement of current scribe Dena Higley with former Passions writers Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas.

Less than 24 hours after ABC dropped its bombshell regarding the firing of General Hospital‘s Emmy winning head writer Robert Guza Jr., another change is taking place on a rival network! Days of Our Lives has announced the immediate replacement of current scribe Dena Higley with former Passions writers Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas. — was the first to break this story.

“McPherson and Thomas will bring Days of Our Lives back to its core values by telling exciting stories with a fresh and contemporary approach,” said executive producer Ken Corday.

For over 20 years Higley has worked on DAYS in various writing capacities. In 2003 she served as head writer before being replaced with the late James E. Reilly. Higley left DAYS in 2004, serving as head writer on ABC’s One Life to Live until fall 2007. Higley would return to DAYS in 2008 after the 2008 WGA Writer’s Strike, replacing Hogan Sheffer and Meg Kelly.

Days of Our Lives was recently nominated for a Daytime Emmy award for Outstanding Writing Team.

Editor’s POV: And just like that…Higley’s tumultuous reign is over. Many angry fans have been wishing for a regime change. While DAYS has been far from perfect, I’ve found it entertaining. That said, it’ll be interesting to see what changes. DAYS tapes much further in advance than other shows so don’t expect any on-screen changes until fall.
