Eva La Rue Returning To All My Children

All My Children fans will see another familiar face returning to Pine Valley as the series prepares to go off air in September. omg! Yahoo reported today that CSI: Miami star Eva La Rue reprise her role as Dr. Maria Santos Grey for “several” episodes beginning in July. La Rue was a Pine Valley staple from 1993 until 1997 when her character was presumed dead. In 2002 she returned to the series, only to leave for good in 2005. She returned for one episode in 2010 for All My Children’s 40th anniversary.

The character first arrived as a neurosurgeon for Pine Valley Hospital and went on to fall in love with Edmund Grey. Their love story involving child tragedies, paternity secrets, presumed death and memory loss made them fan favorites and earned the pair “supercouple” status. After Edmund was killed in 2005, Maria’s left began spiraling out of control, unable to deal with the fact that her husband despised her. When it was clear that her family needed a fresh start and all of her attention, Maria left town with her children.

La Rue’s work on AMC earned her critical acclaim, having been nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 1997 for Outstanding Supporting Actres. In 2003 she was nominated for a NAACP Image Award. The star also earned two American Latino Media Arts (ALMA) Awards (in 1998 and 2006) for her work.

After leaving AMC, La Rue was cast as a recurring character on the fourth season of CBS’ hit procedural series CSI: Miami as Natalia Boa Vista. The actress was upgraded to a series regular at the beginning of season five.

No word yet on what brings Maria back to Pine Valley, but it’s always good to see a familiar face.

La Rue is the latest of recently announced alumns returning before the September finale. Cady McClain recently returned as the very dead (or is she?) Dixie Cooney-Martin. The mega-popular Thorsten Kaye is scheduled to return as Zach Slater (we’re hoping for a reunion with Alicia Minshew’s Kendall). On Monday it was announced that Transformers series star Josh Duhamel will reprise his role as Leo du Pres for at least one episode.
