'The Young and the Restless' Fires Marcy Rylan

In what will come as a surprise to many, Soap Opera Digest is reporting that Marcy Rylan (Abby) has been fired from The Young and the Restless!

Rylan took over the role of Victor Newman and Ashley Abbott’s daughter Abby in May 2010. Digest reports the actress’ termination took the cast by surprised. “Everyone is shocked. No one ever imagined that Em [Rylan’s nickname] would be in danger. After all, her character is a Newman and an Abbott. This just proves that there are going to be a lot of surprises with these budget cuts.”

The actress addressed her exit on Twitter this evening:

My POV: What in the hell is going on in Genoa City? Letting go one of your best younger talents? Out of all the people who could be cut from Y&R, Rylan would be at the bottom of my list. Why eliminate a character that not only has ties to two core families, but could be used as an anchor for the new generation? For the last two years Rylan has injected life into a character that was given one-note writing. She was able to transcend the awful writing for Abby and turn her into a character worthwhile. I just do not get this…at all.

The Bold and the Beautiful would be smart to pick up Rylan and the character of Abby. What better way for the Naked Heiress to get into trouble than to shake things up with the Forresters and Spencers in Los Angeles?

Wouldn’t Rylan make a great Serena Baldwin on General Hospital? What about a recast for Melanie on Days of our Lives? Any show would be lucky to have her talents.
