Tara Summers has played a lot of interesting TV characters over the years from a wide-eyed lawyer just starting out on “Boston Legal” to a wealthy woman caught in the middle of her friend’s lies on “Ringer.” Recently, Summers appeared on “CSI: NY” as a murder suspect and starting tonight, Summers begins a recurring role on FX’s “Sons of Anarchy.”

TV Source had a chance to talk to the actress about her role as Dr. Karen Dunhill and get some scoop on what we could expect from her character, what she wants from Tara (Maggie Siff) and what the atmosphere was like on the set of the motorcycle gang drama.

Summers admitted that it was “quite bizarre” how she got involved in the show in the first place. The call to audition came up out of the blue while the actress was on vacation. “I had not seen the show, but I’d heard amazing things about it,” Summers explained.

Once she got word that she’d landed the part, Summers set out to do a crash course on the show. “I watched a lot of seasons back to back once I got the job,” she said. “I’m so thrilled to be joining that cast.”

Her character comes to town to work with Tara. “She’s heard that she’s is a brilliant doctor and she wants to recruit her to come and work with her,” Summers said. Viewers know that up until recently, Tara kept the fact that she was married to a felon completely hidden from those she works with professionally. Summers confirms that her character has no idea the kind of world that Tara is involved in on a daily basis.

“She isn’t necessarily privy to the underworld and the fact that she’s married to the head of a gang,” Summers said. “She actually asks Tara what her husband does and takes her answer at face value.”

For now, Summers will be appearing in two episodes of the series, but there is a possibility for more in future seasons. “If what I’m asking Tara to do comes to fruition, we would be working together,” she said.

Summers really enjoyed being on the set, even if she didn’t get a chance to ride a motorcycle, something she wished she’d had a chance to do. “It’s a very, very fun set, very hot,” Summers said, “A lot of leather, a lot of men, a lot of testosterone.”

“Sons of Anarchy” airs Tuesdays at 10:00 p.m. EST on FX.
