Less than a year after joining ABC’s General Hospital, daytime newcomer Lindsey Morgan announced she is departing the long running soap.

“It is with a heavy heart I have to announce that my time at Port Charles has come to an end. I’m not sure where Kristina is headed next but it was a beyond amazing opportunity to portray her…be part of the Davis Girls…have the Corinthos’ passion and temper run though my veins and to witness history being made on this momentous show!” the actress wrote on her Facebook Page earlier today.

The Texas beauty took over the role as mob princess Kristina Corinthos-Davis last April, replacing Lexi Ainsworth, who departed the show in 2011. Morgan’s introduction as an older, sexier and rebellious Kristina was widely panned. Many criticized the decision to focus Kristina’s return around the creation of the fictional reality show “Mob Princess.” Focus soon shifted towards Kristina’s boyfriend-turned-husband Trey (Erik Valdez) and his father’s secret vendetta against Sonny (Maurice Benard). Trey was later revealed to be the son of Sonny’s fiancée Kate (Kelly Sullivan). GH wrote off the character in January of this year. After Valdez’s exit, Morgan’s screen time decreased as her character was sentenced to community service for attacking Kate’s alter Connie.

The actress went on to thank her fans and discuss her experience on the show. “I learned so much and am so grateful for the friendships I’ve made and experiences I’ve had. GH will always have a special place in my heart and I cannot thank y’all enough for tuning in loyally to watch me live my dream. But more importantly, THANK Y’ALL for your endless love, letters, support, encouragement, kind words, even the little hello’s or a sweet smiley face…that love kept me going when I had difficulty navigating through Kristina’s and my own journey this past year. Whenever I felt lost, I never truly felt alone and for that, I am eternally gratefully. Thank you for your generosity. Thank you for your love. Thank you. Now keep watching GH!! The Nurses’ Ball is mere days away!!”

A rep for General Hospital could not be reached for comment at press time. It is unknown if there are plans to recast the role.
