All My Children superstar Thorsten Kaye (ex-Zach) about to tackle a bold new role on CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful. The soap veteran has been cast as the fashion soap’s new Ridge Forrester. What does this mean for Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Bill’s (Don Diamont) relationship? And what does this mean for All My Children’s future?

Kaye replaces longtime star Ronn Moss, who departed the series last August after 25 years with The Bold and the Beautiful. His first airdate is set for Friday, December 13. Though details regarding the character’s return are slim at press time, the actor gave an exclusive interview with TV Guide’s Michael Logan, who broke the news.

When the actor signed on to join the cast, he had no idea it was for the role of Ridge until executive producer Bradley Bell dropped the bombshell. The actor knows it won’t be an easy task but hopes fans will allow him to bring something new to the character. “I won’t bring the same tools to the role as Ronn did, but I do have a couple of my own,” said Kaye. “I just hope the audience will let me play with this for a bit and try to get my footing.”

Kaye’s new gig means involvement with Prospect Park’s reboot of All My Children has come to an end. “I don’t have a contract there anymore,” said the actor when asked about his status. “It’s sad, you know? And I hope it all works out for them. But when you have a solid opportunity on a show that’s so highly regarded, you just gotta take it.”

Production on AMC’s second online season was to begin this month. Though the actor didn’t confirm the series was dead, he did admit there’s a lot of questions regarding its future. “There is just so much uncertainty in this business, especially in what we’ve been trying to do with AMC. I do believe it’s going to work out for them, but I gotta be doing something.”

Our Take: Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! This is beyond amazing. Thorsten Kaye is such a man’s man. He’s a MANLY man. He’s is the personification of THE alpha male. I’m looking forward to seeing his take on the character. Thorsten knows he can’t replace Ronn Moss (and no one should try), but the absence of Ridge has been glaring since Moss’s departure. I’m mainly looking forward to Thorsten’s Ridge going head-to-head with Don Diamont. The testosterone on that set won’t be able to be contained!
