MTV wants fans of Awkward to know they’re committed to the series and its new executive producers by giving it a 10 episode back order.
Though production on fourth season of the popular comedy has yet to begin, the network has ordered 10 more episodes, bringing the total for the upcoming season to 20. The “supersized” season of Awkward is tentatively scheduled for spring 2014.
This will be the first season without creator and showrunner Lauren Iungerich, who departed the series over the summer. MTV named Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler (90210, Cashmere Mafia, Are You There, Chelsea? and Reba) as Iungerich’s successors. They inherit a show that continues to draw critical and ratings acclaim for its topical, though humorous storylines.
Awkward stars Ashley Rickards as Jenna, Beau Mirchoff as Matty, Molly Tarlov as Sadie, Jillian Rose Reed as Tamara, Brett Davern as Jake, Nikki DeLoach as Lacey and Nolan Funk as Collin.
