A wise woman by the name of Christina Aguilera once sang “It keeps getting better”. Unless she’s “The Clairvoyant”, I doubt she was talking about Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, but she could have been. Agents has done an amazing job of expanding the Marvel universe while at the same time hinting at classic characters and plot devices. In tonight’s episode “Seeds,” Coulson and May uncover startling information about Skye’s past, while the team is swept into a storm at S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy.
Ward, Skye, Fitz and Simmons head to the S.H.I.E.L.D Academy to investigate when a mysterious object freezes a pool instantly. After last week’s episode, that seems pretty tame, but, it gets better. It turns out Donnie Gill (Dylan Minnette) and his friend Seth (Zachary Burr Abel) set up the accident to bring Fitz and Simmons to the school, where they are considered legends. If you’re a nerd, and I consider myself to be one, you just orgasmed a little at the mention of one of those names.
Meanwhile, Coulson and May are in South America searching for answers to Skye’s past. They find a former agent, Richard Lumley (Boyd Kestner), who was the partner of the woman Skye thinks is her mother. As it turns out, she’s not Skye’s mom. I don’t want spoil it, but it’s a doozy, and we still don’t know everything there is to know.
This is finally starting to become more than a villain of the week show, and I’m here for it. I also love that they are fleshing out Fitz away from Simmons. These two could have easily become caricatures, but I think the writers are doing a good job of giving them distinct personalities.
Best Aspect | The mystery of Skye is building, and whatever it is, it’s promising to be bad ass
Worst Aspect | The weird music playing during the Coulson/Skye scenes. It was dramatic enough without it, and just seemed force.
Best Line | “Bad seed isn’t a S.H.I.E.L.D term Ward. It’s just a term,” said Skye explaining to Ward that she doesn’t need him to be her dictionary.
