Unless you’ve been trapped under a rock with no internet connection since Once Upon a Time aired its season finale in May, you’ve probably heard the news that Frozen is coming to Storybrooke this season starting with the season four premiere, “A Tale of Two Sisters.”

Earlier this summer, ABC released the first photos of Georgina Haig and Scott Michael Foster as Queen Elsa and Kristoff. Today, the network released a larger batch of episode stills which include Elizabeth Lail’s debut as Princess Anna, Elsa’s sister and (spoiler alert!) Kristoff’s fiancée. We’re going to get to see their life in Arendelle after the events of the movie, but we’ll also get to see Elsa experience life in Storybrooke for the first time.

When we last left off in the third season finale, Elsa arrived in Storybrooke when Emma and Hook returned from their trip to the past and the urn carrying the queen hitched a ride to the future. The duo didn’t realize they’d brought back more than one extra passenger from Rumple’s vault, but we all know nothing remains a secret for long in Storybrooke – especially when the newcomer brings a trail of ice and snow with her.

Meanwhile, Regina and Robin are dealing with the return of Maid Marian, Robin’s wife, Roland’s mother, and the woman Emma rescued from Regina’s dungeon and spared her from execution. The first photos from the aftermath of that reveal look just as awkward and uncomfortable as one would imagine – we’re guessing it’s not going to take long for Marian to reveal to her husband that his new love planned to kill her.

In the finale, Regina scolded Emma for her actions, but will the former Evil Queen stop there? Regina’s grown a lot over the past two seasons so we have hope that she’ll refrain from curses or murder sprees, but it’s worth noting this episode also brings the return of Sidney Glass. We haven’t seen the genie turned magic mirror since he took the heat for Katherine’s disappearance so what brings him back now? Has Regina summoned him to do her bidding…or is that just what they want us to think?

Check out the full episode description provided by the network below along with the photos and then hit the comments and share your thoughts and theories with us! Are you excited about the Frozen characters? Are you worried Regina will fall back into her old habits? Can Emma and Hook find a moment alone in between stopping snow monsters? Will Belle discover Rumple’s latest misdeeds?

In the season premiere episode, “A Tale of Two Sisters,” a scared and confused Elsa finds herself in Storybrooke and, fearful of the intentions of its residents, creates a powerful snow monster for protection. With Robin Hood’s wife, Marian, back in the picture, Regina wonders if her “happily ever after” with the former thief has been completely quashed; while on their honeymoon, Mr. Gold finds an intriguing object that makes him question whether or not he should officially give Belle control over the dagger that makes him The Dark One, and Hook is dismayed to discover that Emma seems to be avoiding him while she tries to help comfort Regina after being the one responsible for bringing Marian back from the past and into Storybrooke. Meanwhile, in Arendelle of the past, as Elsa’s sister Anna’s wedding to Kristoff nears, Anna discovers that their parents – who died on-ship during a violent storm – were heading to a mysterious destination in a quest that may have held the secret to containing Elsa’s out of control Ice powers. And against Elsa’s wishes, Anna wants to finish their journey to find out what they were looking for, on “Once Upon a Time,” SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.”

Once Upon a Time returns Sunday, Sept. 28 at 8/7c on ABC.

  1. Very excited for the frozen storyline – nor so much for the new characters it will introduced but for everything it will bring for our regulars. I’m especially looking forward to all the parallels between Emma and Elsa but also Emma/Killian and Anna/Kristoff.
I don’t think Regina will go completely dark again – it wouldn’t make any sense after all the growth she experienced S3. And I get that Emma will feel bad for causing Regina so much pain by bringing Marian back but she did the right thing in saving her life and I hope Regina will see that too.
Other than that what I’m most looking forward to is Emma and Killian’s storyline this season. Their story has been told so brilliantly so far, I’m completely under their spell. It’s so real and magical at the same time. Can’t wait to see Emma let him really in and I’d love to see her fight for him at some point, too. He has proven his love for her over and over again. And he deserves to be loved just as deeply and unconditionally as he loves her :)
