Days of our Lives fan favorite Kate Mansi, who joined the long running NBC soap as Abby Deveraux in 2010, has confirmed reports that she is exiting the show.
As first reported by Serial Scoop, Mansi will continue to air through the first half of 2016 as a result of the taping schedule. Serial Scoop first hinted at the actress’ exit in a blind item last fall, following up with more hints before revealing it was in fact Mansi.
Her storyline has dominated airtime in recent months as the triangle between Abigail, Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) and Chad (Billy Flynn) heated up. Abby recently gave birth to a son, Thomas, and revealed to Chad that he is her child’s father.
In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Mansi reveals why she felt it was time to leave. “After much thought, I’ve decided the timing was right for me to set sail from Salem. I must say that I have thoroughly enjoyed every single beautiful and messy moment of being Abigail, and will always treasure our time together. I want to be very clear in saying that this was not a decision I took lightly.”
She says it was important for her to see Abby through her recent storyline as well as the soaps’ 50th anniversary. “I can confidently say that I poured everything I had into Abigail, especially this last year, and cannot wait for you to see what’s coming! I also want to express how very proud I am to have had the privilege of being a part of this incredibly hard-working daytime community for the past five years.”
Days of our Lives has not issued comment. It is unknown if the show intends to recast or has done so already.
Our Take: Kate Mansi’s exit is a devastating loss for the soaps’ under-30s set, which has been left barren over the years due to a string of departures. It’s been a great run for her and though I’m sad to see her go, I wish her the best going forward. Whoever is cast has big shoes to fill.

Kate Mansi has been a standout in the past few years, and seeing her depart from the role of Abigail Deveraux is devastating. I would give nothing but to see her keep going on, even as a recurring player, but I must support her own decision. I only hope that if the show recasts, the nuAbigail is as excellent as Miss Mansi, who I’d always want to come back.
Wishing you the very best, Kate! You have done such an outstanding job on DAYS. I look forward to seeing what’s next in store for you.
