General Hospital will temporarily recast the role of Nikolas Cassadine for an undetermined amount of time. Sunset Beach alum Nick Stabile will assume the role during Emmy winner Tyler Christopher’s hiatus.
An ABC spokesperson could not give details on the length of the Christopher’s hiatus. Daytime Confidential was the first to break the story, citing personal reasons for Tyler Christopher’s break. The actor, who won his first Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor this year, has been in heavy contract negotiations with the lone alphabet network soap.
This won’t be the first time Stabile was tapped to temporarily step in for an actor on hiatus. In 2004, he filled in for Passions Justin Hartley. Stabile’s last soap credit was a summer run on Days of our Lives in 2009 as Dean Hartman, the mastermind behind the abduction of Bo and Hope’s daughter Ciara. His additional TV credits include Popular, Half & Half, Saints & Sinners.
Nick Stabile began filming last week according to Soap Opera Digest. Given GH’s taping schedule, that should put his first airdate somewhere between June 17-23.
