The Young and the Restless star Gina Tognoni, who will soon depart the CBS soap, has issued a statement about her exit from the series she’s called home since 2014.

As previously reported, General Hospital star Michelle Stafford will be returning to Y&R to reprise the role of Phyllis Summers after a 6-year absence.

Tognoni, who took over the role in 2014 and won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in 2017, commented about her exit on Instagram writing, “Five years ago, I was blessed to embrace the incredible character of Phyllis Summers Abbott. I am beyond grateful for the creative experience that The Young and the Restless has given to me as well as the amazing relationships I made with the cast, crew/staff, producers, and writers.”

Tognoni began her soap career in 1995, originating the role of Kelly Cramer on ABC’s One Life to Live, where she stayed until 2002. In 2004, she joined the cast of CBS’ Guiding Light, taking over the role of the troublemaking Dinah Marler. Tognoni remained with Guiding Light until the series’ cancellation in 2009. She returned to One Life to Live in 2010 but exited the series in the summer of 2011, months before the series finale aired.
