English Teacher premieres on FX September 2. The series follows Evan Marquez, a high school teacher in Austin, Texas who often finds himself at the intersection of the personal, professional and political aspects of working at a high school. Evan wants to be a principled person but often runs into trouble because of it. 

Onyx Collective’s How to Die Alone premieres on hulu September 13 with the first four episodes. The series follows Mel, a broke, fat, Black JFK airport employee who’s never been in love and forgotten how to dream, until an accidental brush with death catapults her on a journey to finally take flight and start living by any means necessary. 

The fourth and final season of My Brilliant Friend premieres on HBO September 9. Based on the bestselling novels by Elena Ferrante, the series follows Elena Greco and the most important friend in her life, Raffaella “Lila” Cerullo. After meeting as children in 1950s Naples, their story goes on to cover over 60 years, exploring the mystery of Lila – Elena’s brilliant best friend and, in a way, her worst enemy. The fourth installment of the saga, titled “Story of the Lost Child,” delves into the adult lives of Elena and Lila. They find themselves entangled in the turmoil of Italy in the late 1980s, nearing the end of decades of political violence and social unrest. Amid motherhood and career demands, amid betrayals, threats, disappearances, and natural disasters, Elena and Lila once again reside in the same neighborhood. 

Rising Impact season two is now streaming on Netflix. The golf manga serialized manga by Nakaba Suzuki, began its run in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1998 and gained enthusiastic support from fans. And now, 25 years later, it has finally been adapted into an anime! Over the course of two seasons, this series follows the growth of third-grader Gawain Nanaumi as he encounters the sport of golf and competes with his rivals. 

The CW will launch WWE NXT with live arena shows in Chicago and St. Louis on October 1 and October 8. Additionally, the live arena shows will feature special appearances by WWE Superstar CM Punk in Chicago and WWE Superstar Randy Orton in St. Louis. In November 2023, The CW Network and WWE announced a five-year agreement to bring NXT wrestling to broadcast television for the first time ever. As the exclusive home of NXT, The CW will air 52 live weekly events throughout the season. 

CBS has ordered a drama pilot titled Einstein. Brilliant but directionless, the great grandson of Albert Einstein spends his days as a comfortably tenured professor until his bad boy antics land him in trouble with the law and he is pressed into service helping a local police detective solve her most puzzling cases. The pilot would be in contention for the 2025-26 broadcast season.

Culinary special Unbelievably Vegan with Chef Charity premieres August 22 on Max. Celebrity chef Charity Morgan is on a mission to integrate vegan options onto the menu at Nashville’s beloved Germantown Pub, a local sports bar run by a stubborn chef who’s set in his meat-eating ways. Chef Charity’s “Three R” system of “Replace, Replicate, Reveal” is put to the test as she pulls out all the stops to convince these carnivores to let a little vegan into their lives and onto their menu. 

Phil Wang’s second Netflix stand-up special will be released on September 3. Taped at London’s only candlelit theatre, the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Shakespeare’s Globe, Wang In There, Baby! is a show about being British, being Asian, octopuses, America, and the trappings of minor fame. 

Docuseries The Wonderland Massacre & The Secret History of Hollywood premieres September 8 on MGM+. Best-selling crime novelist, Michael Connelly, takes us on a wild journey into the twisted story of the massacre at Wonderland Avenue on July 1, 1981 – one of Hollywood’s most famous murder cases that has fascinated people for more than 40 years. In noir-style, verité interviews, Connelly seeks key details about this gruesome quadruple murder with the original detectives, prosecutors, and undercover cops he’d come to know as a young crime beat reporter for The Los Angeles Times. As the investigation unfolds, weaving in rare archival footage and photos, a colorful cast of characters emerges – famous porn star John Holmes, drug dealers and kingpins, mafiosos, televangelists and multiple celebrities, including Liberace and his boy toy, enigma Scott Thorson. 

Netflix has ordered Dutch series Football Parents (Voetbalouders). The series offers viewers a hilarious look at how a group of overenthusiastic parents tend to interfere with the football performances of their young children on the field. It will premiere in 2025. 

Docuseries Out There: Crimes of the Paranormal premieres on hulu September 24 with all episodes. The series takes you inside eight true crime cases with shocking encounters with the paranormal world – through eyewitness accounts, expert interviews, and all-new investigations. In each case, amidst an agonizing search for answers, one rumor emerges from the pack: something inhuman is afoot. These in-depth investigations transport us to towns and cities across North America where we speak to individuals with eyewitness accounts and first-person details about the extraordinary, supernatural events that changed their lives forever. A six-year-old boy in the Smoky Mountains disappears forever after being snatched by a mysterious ape-like beast. A UFO crash in Long Island sparks an assassination attempt and illuminates a massive political conspiracy. An occult coven of Satanic witches is implicated in a decades-old New Jersey murder. Lonely ghosts in San Francisco’s Chinatown threaten to steal the lives of the unmarried. In these stories and more, “Out There” tracks down fresh leads and uncovers new evidence amid a labyrinth of twists and turns. At the end of the road, the investigations unearth new truths – about the power of mythology, the allure of the paranormal, and the monsters among us. 

The American Music Awards (AMAs) are set to commemorate half a century of iconic moments, unforgettable performances and rich pop culture history with a two-hour broadcast, American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special on CBS October 6. The program will feature themed highlights from AMAs’ expansive show archives, each culminating with an original performance or artist interview. Segments will look back on the evolution of specific artists and genres at the AMAs, as well as award and performance milestones.Performers will be announced in the coming weeks. The awards show will return in May 2025.

MTV today revealed the highly-anticipated list of nominees for the 2024 VMAs, celebrating artists whose cultural impact and work during the last 12 months have revolutionized the music industry and sparked global conversations. Taylor Swift (10) leads, looking to continue her record-breaking streak for “Video of the Year” and shatter her own record to become the only artist to ever three-peat and win 5x in the coveted category. Swift is closely followed by her “Fortnight” collaborator Post Malone (9), Ariana Grande, Eminem and Sabrina Carpenter (6 each); Megan Thee Stallion and SZA (5 each), LISA, Olivia Rodrigo and Teddy Swims (4 each). Fans can vote for their favorites across 15 gender-neutral categories, including the highly-coveted “Video of the Year,” presented by Burger King; “Best Collaboration;” and “Artist of the Year” categories, by visiting vote.mtv.com through Friday, August 30th, thanks to The General Insurance(R); voting for “Best New Artist” will remain active into show on Tuesday, September 10th. Nominations for social categories will be announced at a later date. 

TNT Sports and Charles Barkley today reaffirmed his long-term commitment that will see the broadcasting icon and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer exclusively contribute to TNT Sports for many years to come. Barkley, who signed a 10-year agreement with TNT Sports in 2022, will be entering his 25th year with the company. Barkley previously stated he would be retiring. 

Stranger Things: The First Shadow will open on Broadway in 2025. Before the world turned upside down. Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Docuseries American Murder: Laci Peterson premieres August 14 on Netflix. The disturbing disappearance & murder of Laci Peterson in 2002 shocked the nation. Her husband, Scott Peterson, was convicted, yet still claims he’s innocent. 20 years later, we revisit this notorious case with Laci’s mother and friends speaking for the first time. 

MAUI RISING: The Fight for Hawai’i’s Future, commemorating the one-year anniversary of the historic Lahaina wildfires will air August 9 on ABC. Narrated by actor and Hawai’i resident Jason Scott Lee, the program highlights the strength, determination and resilience of the people of Lahaina and follows Native Hawaiian community leaders who see the tragedy as an opportunity to re-envision a new town based on ecological restoration, cultural repair, and ultimately a chance to build a stronger, more equitable and more sustainable future for all of Hawai’i.
