More veterans from All My Children are returning before the series wraps up (on network tv anyway) in September. Alexa Havins and husband Justin Bruening will return for episodes in September.
Torchwood: Miracle Day star Alexa Havins will reprise her role as Arabella “Babe” Carey Chandler. During Havins’ 2003 – 2007 run, the actress was a pivotal focus of many of the shows popular (and controversial) storylines. Havins received a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2005 for Outstanding Younger Actress. The role was recast with General Hospital: Nightshift star Amanda Baker the same day Havins last aired. The character was killed off in 2008. In 2009, a long-lost twin sister of Babe’s named Marissa (then played by Brittany Allen, now by Sarah Glendening) was brought onto the show. Since leaving AMC, Havins has guest stared on many primetime shows including Cold Case, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY and Grey’s Anatomy. She’s also appeared had small roles in films 27 Dresses, Old Dogs, Desert Fox, and When In Rome. Her starring role on Starz’s Torchwood: Miracle Day is her most high-profile role since leaving the soap.
Justin Bruening took over the role of Tad Martin and Brooke English’s son Jamie in 2003. Jamie’s hook up with a new girl didn’t seem like a big deal until she was introduced as his brother JR’s new wife! The dynamic between JR, Babe and Jamie became more complicated from 2004 – 2006 as multiple storylines that saw the paternity of Babe’s child questioned, a baby switch, a dysfunctional marriage between Babe and JR, reveal of the baby switch, kidnappings and so much more. After his relationship with Babe ended, Jamie would go on to become a doctor and hook up with the much older Julia Santos (Sydney Penny). Jamie left Pine Valley in 2007 to join Doctors without Borders.
After leaving AMC, Bruening booked the starring role in NBC’s TV movie Knight Rider, a spinoff (and backdoor pilot) and reboot of the 80’s cult favorite of the same name. The film, though panned critically, delivered 12 million viewers for NBC, enough to commission a weekly series for the fall lineup. Though the series started off with a comfortable 7 million viewers, ratings would fall to a low of 4 million, forcing NBC to reduce the episode order from 22 to 17, and cancel the series. ). He’s since appeared on Friends with Benefits, Castle and State of Georgia. Bruening was to star in NBC’s reboot of Wonder Woman as Steve Trevor, but NBC passed on the series.
Havins and Bruening join the previously announced list of stars returning before the finale including Eva La Rue, Josh Duhamel, Cady McClain, Thorsten Kaye, David Canary, Julia Barr, Leven Rambin, Ray MacDonnell and Lee Meriwether.
