Days of our Lives star Camila Banus (Gabi) has booked a role in Snowfall, FX’s drama pilot from Oscar winning filmmaker John Singleton.
The project is a period drama set in 1980s Los Angeles following the rise of the crack cocaine epidemic and its effect on the community. Snowfall tells the story from the perspective of three characters: Franklin Saint (British actor Damson Idris), a rising street dealer with big ambitions; Gustavo Zapata (The Borgias‘ Sergio Peris-Mencheta), a former wrestler-turned-muscle in search of his American Dream; and Logan Miller (As the World Turns alum and Tony Award nominee Billy Magnussen), the black sheep of a prominent family looking to free himself from the shadow cast by his father.
Deadline reports Banus will play Lucia Villanueva, spoiled daughter of cocaine distributor Manuel Villanueva (Manuel Uriza, Agent X). Her father’s lifestyle has enabled her to live a life of luxury but underneath her privileged facade is a girl with major issues. She’s determined to take control of her life.
Banus recently returned to NBC’s Days of our Lives after a year hiatus (with sporadic guest appearances). Additional credits include One Life to Live and Wishin’ and Hopin’.
Other stars signed on for the FX pilot include DeRay Davis (Empire), Malcolm Mays (Southpaw), singer-actress Jill Scott (Why Did I Get Married?), Lauren London (The Game), Arturo Del Puerto (The Lottery), Andrew Howard (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Tim Matheson (Hart of Dixie).
Singleton will direct the pilot, co-written with Eric Amadio. Singleton and Amadio will serve as executive producers along with Justified veterans Dave Andron, Michael London and Trevor Engelson.
