Soap opera alum Real Andrews will make an appearance in the Friday, January 17 episode of ABC’s General Hospital where he’ll reprise his role as Detective Marcus Taggert.
Fans were shocked to see Andrews appear in the preview for the January 17 episode facing off opposite GH mainstay Maurice Benard (Sonny). The actor originated the role of Taggert in 1996, briefly exited, then returned from 1998-2003.
Taggert and Sonny have an explosive on-screen history hatred dating back the late 90s, stemming from Sonny being a criminal, and Taggert a hot-headed officer determined to bring him down. Sonny’s abusive stepfather Deke was a mentor to Taggert, and blamed Sonny for his death at the hands of the mob. Thankfully, his life wasn’t all about Sonny, as the sexy detective romanced the likes of former district attorney Dara Jensen and FBI agent Hannah Scott. He also had other family in town when his half-sister Gia Campbell (whom fans have been asking for to return as well) moved to Port Charles.
Real Andrews’ soap career stems back to the early 90s, with roles on Santa Barbara and later As the World Turns, All My Children and Days of our Lives. Away from the camera, he has taken up a life of fitness and positivity, speaking openly about his mental health struggles as well as challenges with addiction. Last December, the actor underwent cancer surgery.
