0

ABC is adding another primetime soap to its development slate, this time from Modern Family star Sofia Vergara.  Who says the soap opera is dead?

The Hollywood Reporter reports ABC has given a script commitment to Killer Women, a procedural soap centered around a female Texas Ranger. Vergara will team up with Emmy winner Ben Silverman (Ugly Better, The Tudors, The Office) to produce the series. Hannah Shakespeare will write the pilot and executive produce. Martin Campbell and Luis Balaguer are also attached to produce with Vergara and Silverman. ABC Studios and Silverman’s Electus will distribute.

The hourlong drama is based of POL-KA Productiones’ Argentine series Mueres Asesinas, adapted from the book trilogy by Marisa Grinstein.

Buoyed by the success Revenge, ABC greenlit more soaps for the 2012-2013 lineup, picking up supernatural soap 666 Park Avenue and scandalous soap Mistresses. The network continues to recommitted itself to developing and successfully launching new primetime soaps, with multiple new series development for next season and more expected to be ordered.

Also In Development: Sexy soap SkinDeep from Sheldon Turner (Up In The Air) focuses on a family-run beauty empire; an untitled female soap from Make It or Break It creator Holly Sorensen and Mark Gordon; Dress to Kill, a thriller soap from Jessica Sharzer (American Horror Story) set in the fashion world with a whodunit mystery; Gaslight, a lavish soap opera of passion, greed and hope from Sander/Moses Productions written by Michael Cooney (Identity).
