Days of our Lives has tapped actor Guy Wilson to take over the role of Will Horton from two-time Emmy winner Chandler Massey.
Last month, soap fans were shocked when fan favorite Chandler Massey abruptly announced his departure from DAYS, four months ahead of his planned exit in December. Though Chandler expressed it was his desire to leave early, a report from TV Guide revealed that the soap had let the actor go early, due to finding a replacement sooner than expected. “Due to current storyline and the timely discovery of new talent that the show feels is the right recast for Will Horton, a mutual decision has been made for the changes to taken place immediately,” said the show in a statement. “Chandler will always be a part of the Days family and we wish him nothing but continued success.”
During an interview Wednesday night on the BlogTalkRadio program Lather Up with Littany, Jen Lilley (Theresa) revealed that Guy Wilson was would be taking over the role of Will. While sharing her firsthand experience of being a recast (as GH’s temporary Maxie), she hoped fans would welcome the new actor with open arms. “I am very worried for Guy Wilson, who is replacing Chandler because I love Chandler. It’s really hard to be a recast, and I can understand from an audience’s point of view also why it’s hard. It’s tricky…. I hope people will be nice to Guy Wilson, because there is a scary thing built into being a recast because of the audience, and the awesome fan base. You guys are so loyal!”
Today, Guy Wilson confirmed his hiring on his Facebook page. “Yes, I am the new ‘Will Horton’ on ‘Days of Our Lives.’ This is a dream come true for me. But I do have some very big shoes to fill,” wrote the actor. He praised his predecessor for his hard work and expressed what a privilege it was to succeed him in the role. “Chandler Massey’s talent is beyond measure. I’ve always admired Chandler’s work and to now follow in his footsteps is truly an honor. I am so excited to share this adventure with all of you!!!”
The 27-year old San Francisco native has a previous connection to daytime. In 2006, he portrayed a teenage Luke Spencer in flashbacks on ABC’s General Hospital. Wilson’s primetime credits include guest starring roles on NCIS, Bones, Major Crimes, Hawaii Five-O and most recently, Breaking Bad.
Days of our Lives has yet to confirm Guy Wilson’s casting. The actor is expected to make his on-screen debut at the end of December/early January.
