Drew Garrett Out at ‘GH’; Chad Duell in.
It’s not even baseball season yet but General Hospital is already dropping some casting news out of left field. ABC Soaps-in-Depth broke the news today that GH is recasting the role of Michael Corinthos III. The recently Emmy pre-nominated Drew Garrett will be exiting the part of Michael and mouse houser Chad Duell (The Suite Life on Deck and Wizards of Waverly Place) will be taking over the role this April. ABC has issued an official statement on the unexpected recast: “We are recasting the role of Michael Corinthos Jr., the son of Sonny and Carly, with actor Chad Duell. His first airdate is Tuesday, April 20th. The continuing storyline will have viewers on the edge in the weeks leading up to May sweeps as Michael and his father frantically try to hide the truth that he murdered his stepmother Claudia. We want to thank Drew Garrett for his time with General Hospital and wish him well in all his future endeavors.”
Drew Garrett took over the role on April 24, 2009. Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly (Laura Wright) patiently waited for over a year for their son Michael to come out of the coma that Claudia (Sarah Brown) indirectly put him in when she ordered a hit on Sonny and the bullet struck Michael (then Dylan Cash) in the head. When Michael woke up from the coma, it was with Drew Garrett in the role. Michael was aged to 17 and had a chip on his shoulder. Recently, Michael has been stuck on Sonny’s private island biding his time until Sonny’s trial for Claudia’s murder, an act Michael truly committed, is over. Storyline wise, sources tell us Michael will remain on the island for the foreseeable future.
While the true reason for the recast has yet to be identified, speculation has run rampant. What fans do know is that the yet-to-be-cast character of Zoe, Maya Ward’s (Annie Ilnozeh) half-sister, was said to be mixing it up with Michael when she finally arrives in Port Charles. Could this sudden recast have anything to do with the introduction of Zoe?
