Best and Worst of 2008: Soap Opera Edition

Favorite Soap Site

Daytime Confidential – Run by fans, for fans, DC is one of the leading (if not the) soap sites around. Their brand of humor, gossip, and of course news breaking scoops makes them a fan favorite for many around the net.  Luke, Jamey and the rest of the DC team know what they do best and they do it. Even when they’re mocked (as just an “online rumor) in the magazines, they stay true to form and then it’s the mags that end up eating crow in the end (Natalia’s return anyone?).

Favorite Columnist
Marlena Delacroix and her team are our picks for favorite columnist of 2008. TVS disagrees with Marlena a lot of time, though we always try understand her point of view.

Favorite Blogger
2008 saw the rise of soap writers turned bloggers in the form of Tom Casiello and Sara A. Bibel. They’ve opened up the door to what really goes on behind the scenes at our favorite soaps and have given us an insight that was left to gossip boards and anonymous interviews.

Tom continually kept us glued to his MySpace blog during the writer’s strike, offering a unique perspective that wasn’t seen anywhere else. Whether it was talking about being on the front lines or the behind the scenes happenings at Days of Our Lives, Tom didn’t disappoint. After the strike ended, Tom continued to share his life, insight and opinions with soap fans all over. Tom also puts in regular appearances on Daytime Confidential’s podcast and In The Zone Radio.

Favorite Podcast
We couldn’t very well give this to In The Zone Radio now could we? Daytime Confidental’s Podcast gets our Favorite Podcast of 2008.

Guilty Pleasure
Nelson Branco has single handedly put TV Guide Canada on the map. Before him, did anyone even visit the site? We consider him to be daytime’s version of Perez Hilton, only cuter (much) and more entertaining. Whether he’s breaking news or slipping us scandalous gossip, Branco puts it out there and uncut and uncensored. Brash, bold (and beautiful), Branco says the things many of us wish we could say, but don’t have the stones to do so. Each week he gives fans just a little gossip (and big breaking news) to chew on, toping himself week, after week, after week. We don’t always agree with what he says, but that’s what makes it so interesting.
