80's Fan Favorite Emma Samms Returns To GH For Sweeps

80’s fan favorite Emma Samms (Holly) returns for General Hospital’s upcoming May sweeps storyline.

It’s been 3 years since Emma Samms has disgraced our screens as former heroine Holly Sutton Scorpio on General Hospital.   Back when we last saw the former Mrs. Robert X. Scorpio, she was holding the town hostage for the antidote to a deadly virus and hitting on her former step-daughter’s boyfriend.  Fans of 80s supercouple Robert & Holly were outraged by head writer Bob Guza’s take on their beloved ex-con turned heroine.  Samms rose to success as con artist Holly Sutton during the golden age of General Hospital, the Gloria Monty era of adventure and romance in the 1980s.  How will the former GH icon return to the declining soap?

Samms’ role will be recurring and it begins taping towards the end of April, with scenes airing in mid-May.  What little is known about Holly’s upcoming storyline is that she will be reconnecting with former flame, Luke Spencer, his man-eater daughter Lulu, and the mysterious newcomer, Ethan Lovett.   Fans have speculated about a long lost Robert & Holly lovechild since the debut of Anthony Geary’s pal Nathan Parsons as the fresh faced con artist, Ethan.  The sophomoric swindler has been carrying around an aged photo of the dynamic duo, Robert & Luke, Holly’s ex-paramours and wielding old folklore about the adventurous Ms. Holly Sutton.   Could it be that Ethan has come to ol’ Port Chuck to figure out who his daddy is?  At press time, there is no news of Samms’ former flame and former co-star Tristan Rogers’ return to ABC Daytime’s flagship soap as Holly’s ex-husband, Robert, but we wouldn’t write it off as a possibility.  Rogers has returned to the soap as recent as December for the wedding of Robert’s daughter, Robin.  Fans can only hope that the damage Bob Guza’s pen did to the character of Holly Sutton will be undone with Samms’ latest return.

In between stints on General Hospital, Samms starred in Dynasty as Fallon Carrington and on the Dynasty spinoff, The Colbys, as well as headlining the ill-fated Models, Inc. in the mid-90s.  Samms co-created the Starlight Foundation (starlight.org) in the 80s while originally on GH. The children’s charity inspired by the loss of Samms’ brother Jamie, who died of aplastic anemia, grants wishes for chronically, critically and terminally ill children.  To donate to the organization, click here.
