GH's Steve Burton Inks New Deal?

Steve Burton has inked a new deal with the ABC soap!

In a move only Captain Obvious could have not foreseen, Emmy winner Steve Burton has signed a new contract with ABC Daytime’s flagship soap, General Hospital according to sources at ABC Soaps in Depth. The magazine’s official Twitter tweeted this weekend that the actor had inked a new deal.

This comes after the news that Burton himself recently told Michael Fairman, “We’re taking paycuts just like everybody is just to stay afloat.” Burton was long rumored to have joined forces with Emmy winning costars Maurice Benard, Nancy Lee Grahn and Anthony Geary to resist taking pay cuts due to declining ratings and a dwindling economy. Whatever the case, we do not know what Burton will be earning come payday and of course the show will not comment on the length of the contract. The actor tweeted late last night that he is confirming Soaps in Depth’s announcement and is excited to be staying at GH.

Burton has been with the daytime drama since 1990, taking short leaves starting in 2000 to find work outside of the genre while permanently returning to the show in 2002. During that time, Burton appeared in the feature film The Last Castle along with James Gandolfini and Robert Redford. Outside of GH, Burton does voice work for such video games as Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix. He also appeared in Steven Spielberg’s television mini series Taken as Captain Russell Keys, in 2002.

General Hospital head writer Bob Guza and Burton recently sat down to have their semi-annual discussion of the direction Port Charles’ best mob enforcer will be going in. According to Burton, Guza has some good things coming up for the character of Jason Morgan. Burton playfully joked with Michael Fairman that Jason has reached a low point hearing the sounds of sidekick Spinelli’s sexcapades in his own penthouse, while the brooding mobster is still flying solo after his split from baby mama Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst).

With news of Burton’s new contract signing, fans must wonder who Jason will next pair up with. It’s no secret that Jason and Sam (Kelly Monaco) have been spending more time together. To see the ongoing saga Mob Moll of Love, tune in to General Hospital weekdays at 3pm to see who will get the final set of brass knuckles.
