Bradley Cole Cast On 'General Hospital'

Bradley Cole (ex-Jeffrey, GL) to do “a little stint” on ABC’s “General Hospital.”

We still may not know what actually happened to Jeffrey in the Guiding Light finale, but we do know what his portrayer Bradley Cole will be up to this March! This afternoon, Cole tweeted “I’ll be doing a little stint on General Hospital. Get back to you on air dates. Wall Streeter. Shooting starts in a couple of weeks.” Minutes later, ABC Soaps-in-Depth confirmed the news and elaborated that Cole will be playing Carlton Bauer, father of teenage dirtbag Kiefer (Christian Alexander).

Former co-star Laura Wright (Carly, GH; ex-Cassie, GL) is excited to be reunited with her former onscreen partner. The actress tweeted “Wooo hoo Bradley Cole to GH!!!!” For soap fans not familiar with Cole and Wright’s work on Guiding Light, here’s a quick rundown. Cole played Prince Richard of the fictional San Cristobel, who fell in love with Wright’s character Cassie. The two married in one of Guiding Light’s most iconic weddings and Cassie even became a legitimate princess. However, Richard died in 2002 after a severe car crash. A few months later, Cole returned to the show, but this time as doppelganger Jeffrey O’Neill. Cassie eventually moved on with Richard’s brother, Edmund (David Andrew MacDonald), but she found herself drawn to Jeffrey as well. Wright left the failing soap in 2005 to play Carly Corinthos on General Hospital, a move that many consider one of the smartest soap jumps in recent history. Cole stayed on with Guiding Light until the show was canceled last year. Now it seems Cole is ready to take on Port Charles as well. Wright signed another 4-year deal last fall that would eventually make her GH’s longest running Carly. With Carly currently on the outs with husband Jax (Ingo Rademacher), it could be time for a new man in her life…

While the role is considered short-term, you’d have to be a rookie GH fan not to know that the show is known for turning short term roles into contract gigs. Just this month alone, the show gave Scott Reeves a contract for his role as Steve Webber, which started out in December as a recurring gig.  When Cole joins the show, Carlton will undoubtedly be involved in the developing teen abuse storyline with his son Kiefer. On last Friday’s episode, Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth) poured her heart out to Kiefer about her father, Sonny (Maurice Benard), shooting her newly discovered brother Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) only to have Kiefer slap her across the face for refusing to have sex with him. This is the first time General Hospital has revisited a domestic abuse storyline since the early 1980s when Bobbie’s (Jackie Zeman) first husband turned out to be extremely abusive. Keep checking back with TVSource Magazine as more information about Cole’s character and first airdate becomes available.
