Missy Reeves Returns To Salem; Ex-“One Life” actress tapped for Recast

Days of Our Lives fan favorite Melissa Reeves is returning Salem this fall as Jennifer Deveraux! TVGuide’s Michael Logan reports that the actress has signed a contract with the show and begins taping in September for a first airdate sometime in November.

Reeves was among a multitude of fan favorites who returned to the soap for the death and funeral of Alice Horton. With her husband Scott (Steve, GH; ex-Ryan, Y&R) on contract at ABC’s General Hospital, fans had hoped it wouldn’t be long before Melissa returned to DAYS on a more permanent basis. Now the big question is whether or not Jennifer’s husband Jack (played by Matt Ashford) will return as well.

In Other News:

Robin Mattson (ex-Janet, AMC; ex-Heather, GH) has been cast as Lee, a character who will appear in prison with Stacy Haiduk’s character in October.

Gabriela Rodriguez (Gabi) has been let go. Former One Life to Live actress Camila Banus (ex-Lola) took over the role and began taping Friday, July 30. SOD reports the decision to age the character was the reason for the recast. Rodriguez told TVS back in July that she loved working on DAYS. “I’m having so much fun and it’s such a great learning experience. I couldn’t ask for anything better. I’m just happy to be on this show honestly and I want to be on there for a while, so let’s just hope that happens.”

My Take: Missy Reeves’ return is great news for DAYS, who could always use a familiar face back, so long as there’s an actual purpose for the character. Luckily DAYS has done a great job of properly utilizing returning actors and not having them sit around and used in half storylines ala General Hospital’s Robin Christopher (Skye). I wouldn’t mind Jennifer’s return to Salem to be a catalyst for her and Jack’s marriage to begin falling apart. Could they survive a long-distance relationship? Will another man (hopefully Daniel) catch her eye? The potential for Missy’s return is enormous. Let’s hope they do it right….
