Emmy Winner Jennifer Landon Joins ‘The Young and the Restless’

Jennifer Landon

Former ‘As the World Turns’ star Jennifer Landon joins the cast of ‘The Young and the Restless’ as the series’ newest Heather Stevens!

TVGuide’s Michael Logan reports the actress reported to set May 2 and will first air June 7. Landon is best known for playing the feisty Gwen Norbeck-Munson on ATWT. The star turned her one-day appearance into a three year deal and ended up earning three consecutive Emmys for Outstanding Younger Actress.

Landon replaces Emmy winner Eden Riegel (ex-Bianca, AMC), who was fired from the show last fall along with Tristan Rogers (Colin), Darius McCrary (Malcolm) and Patrick Flanery (Sam). Riegel replaced Vail Bloom, who joined the show in 2007 and was downgraded to recurring status in 2009.

Heather left town last year after the destruction of her career thanks to scandal involving a drunken makeout session with ex-Adam, made public her vengeful half-brother Ricky. Will Heather be able to salvage what’s left of her career?

My Take: As a fan of Landon, I’m thrilled she has a new project. The downside is she’s playing a character that hasn’t had any real direction since the show fired Vail Bloom. Eden Riegel was horribly miscast, and the writing for Heather wasn’t altered in any way to accomodate the kind of actress Riegel is. Landon faces an uphill challenge, but I’m sure she will do well.
