NBC’s gothic monster soap opera Gothica has cast two of its lead characters. Kings alum Chris Egan and UK soap star Tom Ellis (EastEnders) have been cast as Dorian Gray and Victor Frankenstein, respectively.
The series is described as a sexy gothic soap set in the present day that weaves together a mythology that incorporates the legends of Dracula, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein and Dorian Gray, among others.
Egan’s character is described as an “enigmatic playboy, beautifully charming and devastatingly sexy with a smile like a switchblade.” Dorian invests $20 million into Grace Van Helsing’s newspaper, enters into a relationship with her and works to help her solve the mystery involving the death of her family.
Ellis’ Victor Frankenstein is described as a “brilliant doctor and good-looking guy with intense eyes.” Victor runs a hospital specializing in biotech research and is working to resurrect his late daughter, Anna. He’s currently married to Madeline Usher, though he still carries a torch for his former flame, Grace.
Matt Lopez (The Sorcerer’s Stone) is penning the pilot. Mark Gordon will serve as executive producer. ABC Studios and Mark Gordon Co. will produce the series.
